Christmas Alive

Christmas Alive is a yearly event organized by the churches of Gabriola for the whole Island community.

The Biblical Christmas story is read by a narrator and acted out by adults, children and animals.  It is an opportunity to both hear and see the ancient and ageless story of Christmas and to sing carols with our neighbours.

It is a free, family-friendly event of approximately 40 minutes in length, followed by hot chocolate. Christmas Alive was first presented in December 2012 at the Gabriola Commons.  Since then the location has changed to Folklife Village.

It is an occasion when the people of all the churches of the Island can work together and get to know each other.  They also get to experience the story in a slightly different way each year.

The support from the wider community of Gabriola is wonderful – they help with sound, lighting and donkeys among other things! Look for this event about one week before Christmas each year. Bring a flashlight, a lawn chair if you would like to sit down, and dress for the weather. Expect surprises: although there are some very talented people working with the ‘cast’, any story involving a baby, animals and outdoor conditions won’t go strictly according to plan.
