Preparing the Space Around Us

Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here! Welcome if you are gathering on zoom or if you are worshipping at home with the bulletin. We are one community and all part of the body of Christ. I invite you to prepare the space around you

so that for the next hour you can be fully in this worship experience, not to keep out the realities of the world, rather to focus us in the midst of it all on God. If you need to go and get something or shift something around you, feel free.

Preparing the Space Within Us

Let us prepare now the space within us for a time of worship. I invite

you to sit quietly, perhaps with feet on the floor, taking a couple of deep breaths and bring yourself into this moment. Open yourself to the presence of God who is with us and within us . . . as you intentionally open yourself to God, open yourself also to what you need from this time of worship.

Greeting
One:      The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

All:        And also with you

  Gathering

Opening Prayer  Read the prayer slowly.

Loving God, your desire for us calls us and equips us. Your love for

us gifts us and encourages us. Far deeper than any regret of ours is

the pervasive love with which you hold us. Anoint us in the vocation

of healing and hospitality and bless us with fervor that our life’s journey would stand as witness to your boundless gift in us. In Jesus our brother’s name, we pray. Amen.

Hymn: Will You Come and Follow Me                          VU #567 (1,2,4,5)

Will You Come And Follow Me
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Go Where You Don’t Know
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Let My Love Be Shown,
Will You Let My Name Be Known,
Will You Let My Life Be Grown
In You And You In Me?

Will You Leave Yourself Behind
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Care For Cruel And Kind
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Risk The Hostile Stare
Should Your Life Attract Or Scare?
Will You Let Me Answer Prayer
In You And You In Me?

Will You Love The ‘You’ You Hide
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Quell The Fear Inside
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Use The Faith You’ve Found
To Reshape The World Around,
Through My Sight And Touch And Sound
In You And You In Me?

Christ, Your Summons Echoes True
When You But Call My Name.
Let Me Turn And Follow You
And Never Be The Same.
In Your Company I’ll Go
Where Your Love And Footsteps Show.
Thus I’ll Move And Live And Grow
In You And You In Me.

Prayer of Confession  Our world is grieving… we are grieving… let us bring to God what is too heavy to carry.

O God, give us a well of tears to transform the hurts of our lives. O God, give us a well of tears to cleanse the wounds, to bathe the battered face of our world. O God, give us the healing we need so that we do not inflict our wounds on others. Heal us and your grieving world, and by the power of your resurrection, restore us to new life.

Silent Prayer of Confession

Assurance of Grace

There is nowhere we can go to escape God’s transforming love.

We are in desperate need of this. I invite you to imagine the light of

God shining on you in this moment, with God’s love, grace, peace and assurance.  I encourage you to sit in this moment and receive this goodness, these things are for you and they are always available to you.

Peace of Christ

Christ is with us and in the space between us.  Let us share the peace he brings!

One: The Peace of Christ be with you!

              All:   And also with you!

Scripture Reading

The Psalm of the day is number 116:1-2, 12-19;

listen for the word of God to you this morning.

I love you Lord, you heard my cry

because you listened closely

on the day I called to you.

So how can I repay you, Lord

for all the goodness you have shown?

I will take this cup called, “restoration,”

     and raising it in celebration.

With all the vows that I have made to you

I will fulfil them before these many witnesses.

And death itself I’ll offer up to you, as greatest gift,

     a precious thing.

And I shall ever be your faithful, willing servant, Lord,

for you have broken every bond on my behalf

     and set me free.

So I lift this sacrifice of gratitude for freedom’s sake,

and in your name I offer it with all my vows.

Among these people, at the center of your city,

before the doors of your own house,

I speak my deepest praise to you, forever.

     Hallelujah.

Reflection:    Jesus Sends Disciples   ( Sermon is attached below)

Silent Reflection

Apostle’s Creed: Let us affirm our faith . . .

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
     born of the Virgin Mary,
     suffered under Pontius Pilate,
     was crucified, died, and was buried;
     he descended to the dead.
     On the third day he rose again;
     he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
     and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People    Susan Brockley ( Attached below)

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever. Amen.

Offering

As disciples, we are called to serve any way we are able, and to listen for God’s call in us. This season has offered an abundance of opportunity

to reach out to those around us, to do something as simple as checking in. Everyone is going through something – that’s always true . . .and is even more evident in these days. Let us give thanks for these opportunities to live out our faith as disciples.

Let us pray: Loving God, you have called our names and we have responded with prayer, agenda items, kind words, baking, financial offerings, phone calls, errands and so much more. Accept these gifts

as thanksgiving for your many blessings. Accept these gifts as our commitment to you kingdom and multiply them. Accept these gifts and accept our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. (Gathering)

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: I Love to Tell the Story     VU #343

1I love to tell the story
of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory,
of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story
because I know 'tis true;
it satisfies my longings
as nothing else can do.

[Refrain:]
I love to tell the story,
'twill be my theme in glory,
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.

3I love to tell the story,
for those who know it best
seem hungering and thirsting
to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
'twill be the old, old story
that I have loved so long. [Refrain]

Blessing

If you are with another person, you’re invited to bless each other,

taking every other line.

One:      The Creator’s blessing be yours on your road, on your journey, guiding you, cherishing you.

First name N-Z:

The Son’s blessing be yours, wine and water, bread and stories, feeding you, challenging you.

First name A-M:

The Spirit’s blessing be yours, wind and fire, joy and wisdom, comforting you, disturbing you.

All:        The Angel’s blessing be yours, on your house, on your living, guarding you, encouraging you. Let us walk together, a community on a journey sustained in God’s blessing. Amen!

One:      Let us go now in peace to love and serve the Lord.

All:        Thanks be to God! Alleluia!
